Roofing in the Twin Cities

Your roof is your home's first line of defense against harsh Minnesota winters and hot, humid Minnesota summers. It is also one of the first things that you, your friends, and possibly future buyers see when pulling into your driveway. That's why it is so important to hire a contractor that doesn't only offer quality products but also has the experience and knowledge to bring all of the most important aspects of your home and roof together to create a quality, long-lasting roofing SYSTEM that will last for decades.
THE MOST COMMON QUESTION WE RECEIVE FROM HOMEOWNERS IS, HOW DO I PREVENT ICE DAMS?
One of the most critical aspects of installing a roof that is going to stand the test of time is ventilation. We have all seen ice dams and large icicles either on our own homes or our neighbor's. These ice dams can cause damage to your roof shingles, roof decking, attic insulation, interior drywall, and structural framing. It is important that we do all that we can to reduce your chances of having ice dams on your roof. The single most significant factor in creating ice dams is ventilation.

During the cold months of winter, heat escapes your home through your ceiling and heats up your attic. This warm air in the attic then starts to melt the snow on your roof. As the water runs down your roof, it often re-freezes at the eave when it is no longer over a heated area. As this happens over time, an ice dam is created. Eventually, water will start to pool up behind this dam, at which point it can back up past your shingles overlap and start leaking.
HOW DO WE PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING?
The simplest and most effective way of preventing this is to replace that warm air in your attic with fresh cold air from outside. By adding vents to the soffits on the lower eaves of your home, we allow air to enter the attic space. With cold air rushing into the lower part of the attic, the warm air will naturally rise to the top of the attic and escape through exhaust vents. All homes are different and require different forms of ventilation. Through our training, knowledge, and experience, we are able to assess each home independently and put together a system specific to your home in order to maximize the ventilation.
